The ever growing dance music scene has given us a lot of artists who produced great hits and won so many awards, but one who stand out and remember are the ones who wear a mask. Generally DJ's wear a mask to get rid of the fear which they have when they have to face a massive crowd who are anxious to listen to their music and dance to it.
If one observes history mask serves as a medium of concealment of one's identity, even in popular culture masks have acted as symbols, deriving their own meanings, in dance music culture the mask becomes an alter ego or a medium for the artist to express him self. The mask gives him/her confidence boost to perform in front of the crowd. Wearing one isolates their identity and feelings from their immediate surroundings, alters the space around them, making them more purpose oriented, it enhances their stage show and sets thier brand image.

We all wear masks in our daily life but in the EDM scene this becomes literal. DJ's wear masks not always to conceal their identity but also to be portrayed as something which they want. Deadmou5 is an internationally well known DJ says ,"I could make the music in my bedroom and very shy, it becomes difficult to step in front of a crowd and perform, my mask enables me to turn my persona from a shy guy to a party starter", he aslo fears that the artists can become the literal manifestation of the mask they wear.

Wearing masks is strengthens “the persona” according to a famous psychologist Carl Jung. To him the persona was the aspect of an individual’s self that they chose to be the presentation for the world, an alter ego of how they want to be seen rather than what they actually are. If not considering the psychological reasons behind using a mask and its implications, there are indeed a lot of practical reasons. Masks become a spiritual significance for people indulging in dance music culture, they Describe the music, giving the sound a physical manifestation.
