CARTOGRAPHY ART

We all watch movies and travel around the world inside those screens. But have we ever sat down and pondered about our perspective towards those places as grasped through the movies? Recently I was asked to do so. The medium of expression which I took was cartography in mixed media.

I decided to take up ATHENS, Greece as the city. After watching a bunch of movies I came up with three concepts inspired from those movies.

Concept 1: It's very Greek!

This is inspired from the movie Mamma Mia! which is a musical. This movie was shot in Athens as well as few islands in Greece. The colour palette was kept blue to create the ambiance similar to that of the movie.

Concept 2

This work is inspired from the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin. This is a love story based in the war time period again showing various places of Greece including Athens. The idea here was to create an organic peice depicting the struggle period of the city.

Concept 3: My Life In Ruins

This work is inspired from the movie My Life In Ruins which is a story about a young girl who travels across Greece as a tour guide and finds the love of her life. The idea behind this was to use typography in the map and also to depict the fact that Athens is the city of ruins.
